Elizabeth McWilliams selected as Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Ely and East Cambridgeshire

Elizabeth McWilliams has been selected to stand as Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Ely and East Cambridgeshire.

Elizabeth is a parish councillor who works hard for her community. She says she won’t take ‘no’ for an answer! Ms McWilliams secured necessary repairs for council tenants after the opposition-led Council refused to help them. She also successfully encouraged the District Council to sign-up to the White Ribbon campaign. This has helped men and boys to play a role in making society safer and ending violence against women and girls.

Her current job is as the Alumni and Events Officer at a Cambridge college. As workplace staff representative, Elizabeth won sick pay for probationary staff. Elizabeth is a people person and regularly delivers great results to tight deadlines.

Speaking after her selection, Elizabeth McWilliams said:

“I’m thrilled to be chosen to stand for Labour in Ely and East Cambridgeshire, a community I have lived in for 20 years.

“Every week, more people are joining Labour’s campaign as we speak to issues that matter to them. They tell me on the doorsteps that it is impossible to sign-up with an NHS dentist and that they’re struggling with crippling bills. Also, anti-social behaviour is rife and our schools need more funds.

“I will be spending every campaigning minute putting forward how a Labour Government will change people’s lives for the better. And if voters choose me to represent them, I promise to turn up, speak up and never give up on being the local voice for Ely and East Cambridgeshire in Parliament.”
